RHA and MINALOC Intensify Campaign for Safe Human Settlement in Karongi and Ngororero

On March 18–19, 2026, the Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA), in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC), conducted a strategic awareness campaign across the Karongi and Ngororero districts.

The initiative brought together officials from District One Stop Centers and Sector Land Managers to address critical challenges in rural and urban settlement planning.

Prioritizing Safety and Planning The primary objective of the campaign is to accelerate the relocation of citizens living in high-risk zones and scattered, unauthorized settlements. By moving these families into designated safe areas, the government aims to mitigate the dangers of natural disasters and ensure better access to essential infrastructure.

Data-Driven Relocation A key component of this mission involves rigorous data collection. Officials are currently:

  • Identifying families still residing in high-risk or scattered areas.
  • Tracking the progress of those who have successfully transitioned to authorized sites during the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

This campaign underscores Rwanda’s commitment to organized, sustainable human settlement, ensuring that every citizen lives in a safe environment aligned with national development goals.
